KMFDM'S `XTORT' IS A MUST-HAVE FOR FANS

KMFDM; "Xtort" (Wax Trax!). * * 1/2

The industrial metalizers KMFDM are back with another grinding assault. And there's nothing really new to add to last-year's "Nihl." If you're a KMFDM fan, you'll love this album - it's familiar, groovy and angry. From the bouncing grit of the opening "Power" to the apocalyptic bump of "Wrath," "Xtort" is pure KMFDM. Techno-tronically pre-program-med percussion is entertwined with gothic keyboards and growling vocals.

Disenfranchisement runs through-out the album - a KMFDM staple. And even the band's public relations head gets involved. Nicole Blackman reads an angry soliloquy over the pulsing, volcanic "Dogma," one of the best cuts on the album.

"Xtort" is a must for fans' collection, but for those who don't know KMFDM, "Nihl" might be a better introduction.
